Having previously practiced at an American Law 100 firm as well as in-house counsel for a multi-national corporation, Mr. Hakala brings both legal expertise and business sense to the business transactions that clients seek to accomplish and the complex legal problems that they seek to litigate and resolve.
Mr. Hakala has not only litigated various complex business and employment matters on behalf of Fortune 100 clients, he also provides general business, technology, and media law representation to various companies, including start-up businesses and those in the renewable energies sector. Mr. Hakala is an experienced business litigator who has also been involved in negotiating, structuring, and bringing to life thousands of business transactions. Having significant experience in both transactional matters as well as litigation has allowed Mr. Hakala the unique perspective and know how to structure a deal to avoid unnecessary pitfalls leading to litigation, and a deeper understanding of the matters which he typically litigates. Mr. Hakala handles business start-ups, technology transactions, asset-purchases, stock-purchases, corporate financing, lending, corporate governance, licensing, employment, and general commercial contracts and transactions.
Prior to forming The Hakala Law Group, Mr. Hakala practiced law at a leading international law firm, where he both litigated complex business matters and also negotiated and drafted various business, technology, and employment agreements. Mr. Hakala also advises clients on various states’ vehicle codes, terminations, buy/sells, relocations, open-point establishments, and compliance requirements.
Additionally, Mr. Hakala has also served as Corporate Counsel for a large multi-national automotive and powersports distributor, where he was responsible for the company’s legal operations, which included negotiating and drafting numerous multi million-dollar business, sponsorship and athlete agreements, obtaining and enforcing intellectual property rights including patents and trademarks, negotiating and drafting licensing agreements, advising on various employment matters including wage & hour code, and overseeing all legal aspects of the Company’s advertising.
Mr. Hakala currently represents both new and well-established clients in the automotive, powersports, action-sports, food & beverage, health care, insurance, combat sports/fighting, clothing, entertainment, television, modeling, biomedical, and health and fitness industries, as well as upcoming companies who are focused on environmentally conscious technologies.
Mr. Hakala is also a registered sports agent, certified with both the National Football League Player’s Association (NFLPA) and the National Basketball Player’s Association (NBPA), and has been a regular contributor on a nationally syndicated radio show dedicated to action sports.
